Improving retention in HIV/AIDS programmes in Kenya

This project intends to contribute to improving the health of HIV+ people, by increasing the percentage of retention in care through scrupulous observation of the administration of medication for the prevention and treatment of HIV and AIDS.

Patients stop taking their medication for several reasons: they may be poor, out of work, or on the contrary, may need to go to work to support their family and cannot  focus on their health, or because they do not know enough about what it means to have HIV/AIDS.

The project is therefore driven by the needs that are identified, and it includes healthcare, food integration and psycho-social support for the patients in the healthcare centres that are involved in the project. The aim is to bring down the number of patients who abandon the HIV/AIDS treatment within five years of starting.
