AN AWARD FROM THE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY
FOR HEALTH WORK IN AFRICA
The ceremony of award-giving by the University to the DREAM programme of the Community of Sant’Egidio, took place on 23 April at the Faculty of Medicine of Aquila University. The award was for the best intervention of health assistance in Africa.
Hundreds of students, many lecturers from the Athenaeum and local authorities took part in the ceremony.
In his address, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Fernando di Orio, stressed that the intention of the faculty was not only to award the intervention of St Egidio from a humanitarian perspective, but also to extend scientific recognition to the setting up of an effective treatment model in Africa.
The magistrale lecture of Prof. Leonardo Palombi on the theme, “DREAM: treating AIDS in Africa”, followed. Afterwards there was an intervention by Andrea Riccardi about “Sant’Egidio, peace and solidarity in a globalised world” and then the award plate was given.
