It was far from the first time that a party was held at the Nutritional Centre of the Country of the Rainbow in Matola C. But this was a special occasion. Many people turned up to mark the thirty-ninth birthday of the Community of Sant’Egidio. DREAM campaigners personally invited friends, colleagues and all the mothers of children who attend the centre. |

More than 300 people gathered for a thanksgiving prayer, a service at the same time solemn and informal. The prayer was followed by a real party, which was animated by the scouts who help out at the centre every day and especially by children who were singing, dancing and playing. A big cake with a rainbow and a dove set the seal on this time of deep gratitude and joy. |

The DREAM centre of Manga Chingussura (Beira) also celebrated the birthday of the community, recalling the beginnings of this family which, in the words of Veronica, one of the centre’s first campaigners, “restored life to many people, who thus could be here today”. The wish echoing among the mangoes around Beira was “Let’s go together towards 40, joining the choir of joyful cries coming from so many other parts of the world too. |
