On 7 May last, Sr Evelyne Franc, Mother General of the Congregation of the Daughters of Charity, visited the headquarters of the Community of Sant’Egidio in Trastevere and met Prof. Andrea Riccardi, founder of the Community.

Their warm meeting provided the opportunity to retrace the history of friendship between the Community and the Vincentian Sisters as well as to emphasise the urgent need of resurrection expressed by Africa. It is in this context that the proactive and harmonious collaboration between Sant’Egidio and the Daughters of Charity unfolds, realised in the framework of the DREAM programme.

The Vincentians, in fact, were among the first religious congregations to believe in the prospects of joining forces to fight against AIDS in Africa. At this time, in five countries of Sub-Saharan Africa (Mozambique, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Kenya), the health centres run by the Daughters of Charity, including some in the process of realisation, have become places of treatment and hope that apply the DREAM protocols and work for the resurrection of Africa and its sick people.
