Already more than a thousand people have turned to the DREAM Center of Kinshasa for HIV testing. The Center is in fact located in a poor suburb that lacks health structures and infrastructures in general with all the ensuing problems.

Recently the center received the visit of the Ministers of Health and those of Infrastructures and Energy, committing to solve the problem regarding the connection to the power supply and the improvement of the access road, recognizing the social value of the DREAM program for the country.

On Saturday, February 4, a party with patients and staff was held at the DREAM Center, to commemorate the 44th anniversary of the Community of Sant’Egidio. “Thank you because I have not only found a treatment center but also a family with which to start living again” one of the first patients who were treated said.

During the party a plaque with the picture and the story, both in French and lingala, of Floribert Bwana Chuy, to whom the center is dedicated, was exposed.

Floribert was a young member of the Community of Sant’Egidio in Goma and devoted himself with enthusiasm to the school of peace with the children of the streets. He was a customs officer and was killed on July 8 2007 for his opposition to attempts of bribery.

Reading his story together with the patients was an opportunity to reaffirm how the DREAM Center, which opened just 4 years after his death, represents a sign of rejection of the law of profits at all costs as well as of hope for the resurrection of his country.
