Descrizione progetto

In Kenya, in the counties of Meru and Tharaka-Nithi and in the Nairobi area, EDUFOOD KENYA is a project designed to respond to an urgent need: tackling hunger and malnutrition in the most vulnerable communities, particularly in contexts affected by emergencies and food insecurity.

Alongside immediate assistance, the project pursues a broader and longer-term objective: supporting families in building the tools and skills needed to achieve greater food self-sufficiency, while strengthening communities’ capacity to cope with hardship in a stable and sustainable way over time.

EDUFOOD KENYA combines concrete nutritional support interventions with education and accompaniment, valuing close collaboration with local staff and partners on the ground. In addition to direct assistance, strong emphasis is placed on training, ensuring that emergency response also becomes an investment in the future.

Objective

To improve food security for vulnerable populations in Kenya through:

  • nutritional support in emergency and malnutrition contexts

  • food and health education

  • actions aimed at strengthening family sustainability and resilience

Main Activities

The project is structured around four lines of intervention:

1) Nutritional support and emergency response

  • food distribution and assistance to the most vulnerable families

  • particular focus on households most exposed to malnutrition

2) Food and hygiene education

  • information sessions and activities targeting families and communities

  • promotion of good nutrition and everyday hygiene practices

3) Training and capacity building of personnel

  • strengthening operational skills to improve response capacity

  • involvement and training of key community reference figures

4) Food self-sufficiency and resilience support

  • actions to promote household food production (e.g. small-scale gardens and local solutions)

  • accompaniment of families towards more stable and sustainable strategies

Funding

Project funded by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers through the allocation of the “otto per mille” share of personal income tax (IRPEF).
