DREAM conference Africa in the heart… of Sorrento
On a splendid terrace of Sorrento with the entire Gulf of Naples as a backdrop, a meeting was held to present the DREAM Programme of the Community of Sant’Egidio.
The initiative, organised and managed by a biologist of the DREAM programme from Sorrento, drew considerable attention. Many of those showing an interest had already proved to be very aware in the past, supporting the 30 Ore per la Vita (30 hours for life) activity.
The meeting unfolded in a comfortable atmosphere, starting with personal testimonies and experiences shared “in the first person”. Many photos were shown during the talks, bringing the faces and hearts of many Africans to the crowd of people from Sorrento.
Sentiment ran high during the presentation of the history and the objectives of the DREAM programme in Africa. The point was made that all medical and scientific results arise from the acknowledgment of a shared destiny, which links one to the other, from North to South. This gave rise to an animated debate, rich with questions, interest and reflections.
In fact, the members of the audience all got involved, with some saying: “Now everything is possible and we want to join this dream of Sant’Egidio too!”
The screening of the Viva l’Africa Viva (Long live Africa) video allowed those present to enter a world not easily described with words alone; many were visibly moved by what they saw.
The meeting ended with many expressing their interest in and offering to support the work of the Community of Sant’Egidio in Africa.
The next appointment in Sorrento will be a prayer meeting with the Community of Sant’Egidio, especially for Africa.
