03 - Dec - 2011

On the morning of November 30 you could breath an atmosphere of celebration, great joy and curiosity in Praia Nova: the opening of the nutritional center of the Community of Sant’Egidio. The waiting was exciting for the many children outside the gates.

It is the third nutritional center of the Community in Africa, and the second in Mozambique.

It was quickly implemented in the last months, in the middle of the city and close to a very poor neighborhood made of caniço (reed).

The center looks nice, friendly, harmonious, a place where it is good to wash your hands, play, eat delicious food, grow up together.

It has a beautiful central square, overlooked by the rooms used to eat, play and study. There is also a small school, available for the neighborhood.

The cooks, busy and struggling in their first days with big meals for the young guests, are cheerful and happy to be able to work in such a beautiful environment.

It truly is the Rainbow Country.

After the blessing and cut of the ribbon, everybody went for a sightseeing of the center: children, adults, supporters, the architects and all those who worked on its implementation, the activists. A feast for all!

Soon, a beautiful DREAM center will open next to it, a center where children and adults will be able to receive treatment.

Many activities will take place in it: beyond the activities regarding daily meals, according to patterns which follow precise nutritional indications, it will also host school activities, in agreement with the city’s authorities, and a School of Peace.

The center is so nice that everybody looks for a reason to stay over also after lunch, attracted by such a warm and friendly home. The rooms have no doors; as if meaning that access is for everybody and nobody is excluded from it. In the coming days the arrival of a large number of children who we will be able to accept is expected.

The colors of the Rainbow Country are actually coloring all Africa.
