A new health center of the DREAM Program was opened in Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic. The country needs support in rebuilding health, education and training infrastructure and furthering peace, following the signing of the peace and reconciliation agreement on 6th February in Bangui. The achievement was possible thanks to the mediation of the Community of Sant’Egidio together with the African Union, the United Nations and the governments of the region.

Last month DREAM signed an agreement with the Ministry of Health to manage a health center in Bangui that can ensure free treatment to adults, children and pregnant women affected by chronic and infectious diseases.

The proposal is to open a health center which can become a point of reference also for training the country’s health personnel, in particular for what concerns treatment of chronic diseases, providing the opportunity and know-how for the Ministry of Health to open other health centers in the CAR.

The new center of the DREAM Program renews the will to live and gives hope to the people, as everyday new mothers and children visit the center asking for treatment and healing. It is a practical example of the special care and affection that Sant’Egidio reserves for this impoverished country, lacking many resources due to its enduring wars, and gives hope for a different future to the people of the region.
