In Arusha, Tanzania, the course “Training 4 DREAM” took place, promoted by the DREAM Program of the Community of Sant’Egidio with the support of the 8×1000 funds from the Italian Bishops’ Conference (CEI). The initiative, dedicated to training health personnel in the management of HIV and drug resistance, brought together healthcare professionals and institutions to strengthen the quality of care and foster collaboration throughout the country.

On October 2–3, 2025, in Arusha, Tanzania, the training course “Training 4 DREAM: Training and Empowerment of Human Resources to Improve Access to Healthcare in Tanzania” was held as part of the T4D project, promoted by the DREAM Program of the Community of Sant’Egidio in collaboration with the CEI, through otto per mille funds.

The course, focused on drug resistance related to HIV, the management of patients with therapeutic failure, and laboratory monitoring, was an important opportunity for professional development and exchange among 47 healthcare professionals and community activists from four regions of the country: Arusha, Iringa, Mara, and Njombe.

Organized with the scientific support of the Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases in Rome, the training brought together doctors, laboratory technicians, nurses, and Community Health Workers, as well as representatives from Tanzania’s Ministry of Health and from regional and district authorities — all with the goal of strengthening institutional collaboration and spreading expertise nationwide.

The course is part of the second year of the three-year Training for DREAM project, which aims to reinforce the Tanzanian health system through high-quality training programs, on-the-job learning, and regular updates. The project focuses on the professional growth of local staff, investing in the training of laboratory technicians, clinical officers, and community health workers — key figures for ensuring the sustainability of the health system and continuity of care, even in rural areas.

The CEI’s support reinforces DREAM’s commitment to a healthcare system that is both compassionate and close to the people. In Arusha, the course also served as a meeting point between DREAM centers and public and mission-run health facilities in the region, fostering collaboration and the exchange of experiences among those who care for patients every day. A network of cooperation that continues to grow, year after year.
