Malawi: Visit by the German Ambassador and the German AIDS Foundation strengthens collaboration with DREAM
In recent days, the DREAM Program in Malawi welcomed a delegation composed of the German Ambassador to Malawi, Ute König, and representatives of the German AIDS Foundation, including CEO Anne von Fallois and Klaus Reder.
The visit, which took place from May 11 to 14, was an important opportunity for dialogue and exchange on the work that DREAM continues to carry out in the country, also thanks to the support of the German AIDS Foundation and BMZ. Over the years, this shared commitment has helped strengthen healthcare services dedicated to HIV treatment, cervical cancer prevention, telemedicine, and community health.
The delegation visited several DREAM centres and community activities, gaining firsthand insight into the daily work carried out by DREAM healthcare workers and local communities.
The first stop was the DREAM Centre in Balaka, where the guests met doctors, nurses, laboratory staff, and operators working with adolescent-focused services. During the visit, they were able to see the close collaboration with local public health facilities and the diagnostic support provided to rural communities. The visit continued at the Chifundo Feeding Centre, which supports vulnerable children and families through nutritional assistance programs.
In Blantyre, at the DREAM Mandala Centre, the delegation learned more about the program’s different activities: from HIV care to cervical and breast cancer screening, as well as telemedicine, neurology, pharmacy, and laboratory services. Discussions also highlighted the importance of innovations introduced in recent years, including digital systems and renewable energy solutions supporting healthcare delivery.
One of the most meaningful moments of the visit was the participation in a community awareness campaign focused on HIV and cervical cancer prevention. The delegation witnessed firsthand DREAM’s daily commitment to raising awareness, promoting screening, and encouraging greater health awareness among local communities.
Ambassador König also took part in a television program broadcast by the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation together with the DREAM Malawi Program Manager, highlighting the importance of the collaboration between Germany and the DREAM Program in strengthening healthcare services in the country.
During the visit, the delegation also met adolescents, young people, and expert clients, who shared their personal experiences and explained how access to DREAM services had positively changed their lives.
The mission concluded with a visit to the DREAM Centre in Kapeni and home care activities, once again confirming the DREAM Program’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable people and communities.
A visit that strengthened an already solid partnership and opened new horizons for collaboration, with the shared goal of improving the health and wellbeing of Malawian communities.
