Descrizione progetto

In Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, falling ill can still mean not receiving medical care. Many health facilities lack sufficient medicines, staffing levels are limited, and for many families health centers are distant, difficult to reach, or viewed with distrust.

Those most at risk are pregnant women, young children, and people living with chronic diseases such as HIV and epilepsy. In this context, ensuring access to basic healthcare is not only a medical intervention: it is an act of protection and stability for the entire community.

The Health and Peace project was designed to respond to this fragility through a concrete and continuous approach: strengthening existing health services, bringing vaccinations directly into neighborhoods, supporting women throughout pregnancy, and guaranteeing free and continuous care for those living with chronic illnesses.

Alongside service delivery, the project invests in training local healthcare staff and fostering dialogue with communities, so that health is not merely an emergency response, but a right exercised every day.

Objective

To make healthcare services closer, more accessible, and more inclusive, reducing risks for mothers and children while strengthening the local health system’s capacity to respond to community needs.

Main Activities

  • Prenatal care pathways for pregnant women

  • Door-to-door vaccination campaigns in the most vulnerable neighborhoods

  • Free care for people living with HIV and epilepsy

  • Training and mentoring of healthcare personnel

  • Community awareness-raising on the importance of prevention
