A new phase of the DREAM Programme’s commitment in Malawi and Mozambique has begun through the project “IHS – Enhancing Malawi and Mozambique Health Systems through Integrated Health Services”, implemented with the support of the Direction de la Coopération Internationale of the Government of the Principality of Monaco.

The initiative builds on previous years’ efforts to strengthen access to quality healthcare services in the districts of Blantyre, Malawi, and Quelimane, Mozambique, promoting an integrated model of care for people living with HIV, tuberculosis and non-communicable diseases.

The DREAM centres involved in the project represent an important point of reference for thousands of patients and local communities. Through an approach combining clinical care, advanced diagnostics, healthcare worker training and prevention activities, the project aims to improve both access to healthcare services and long-term retention in care.

Particular attention is devoted to maternal and child health and to the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, one of the historic priorities of the DREAM Programme. At the same time, screening activities for cervical cancer, diabetes, hypertension and other chronic diseases are being strengthened, addressing some of the most pressing health challenges facing Southern Africa.

Throughout 2025, continuous training and capacity-building activities will also be provided for doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and community health workers, with the objective of strengthening professional skills and ensuring increasingly effective and sustainable healthcare services.

The project is implemented in close collaboration with the Ministries of Health and local health authorities in both countries, contributing to the strengthening of public health systems and the promotion of people-centred models of care.

Thanks to the support of the Government of the Principality of Monaco, the DREAM Programme will continue to promote equitable access to healthcare and create new opportunities for health and wellbeing for vulnerable populations in Malawi and Mozambique.
