More than 11,000 people received healthcare services in 2025 through DREAM’s integrated health programmes in Malawi and Mozambique
More than 11,000 people benefited from healthcare services provided by the DREAM Programme in the districts of Blantyre, Malawi, and Quelimane, Mozambique, during 2025 under the project “IHS – Enhancing Malawi and Mozambique Health Systems through Integrated Health Services”, supported by the Direction de la Coopération Internationale of the Government of the Principality of Monaco.
The first year of implementation produced significant results in strengthening services dedicated to HIV, tuberculosis, non-communicable diseases and cancer prevention. Overall, more than 11,200 patients received integrated healthcare services through the facilities involved in the initiative.
Activities carried out during the year included screening services, medical consultations, laboratory diagnostic monitoring, prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) programmes, nutritional support and adherence support services for vulnerable patients.
Particular attention was devoted to cervical cancer prevention. Hundreds of women gained access to screening and early diagnosis services, while collaboration with national health authorities continued in both countries to support Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaigns.
Alongside clinical services, the project promoted a wide range of health education and community awareness activities. Through health talks, outreach initiatives and information campaigns, thousands of people received information on disease prevention, treatment adherence and healthy lifestyles.
Training and refresher programmes were also organised for healthcare workers, laboratory personnel and community-based staff, contributing to the strengthening of professional capacities and the overall quality of care provided to patients.
The results achieved during 2025 confirm the effectiveness of an integrated approach that combines healthcare delivery, prevention, training and community engagement. The project will continue until 2027 with the objective of further expanding access to services and consolidating the progress achieved so far.
The partnership between the DREAM Programme, local health institutions and the Government of the Principality of Monaco continues to make an important contribution to strengthening health systems and promoting the right to health in Malawi and Mozambique.
