Conakry, Guinea Visit of apostolic nuncio to DREAM centre
Last week, there was a day of celebration at the DREAM centre of Conakry in Guinea. The visit of the Apostolic Nuncio, Mgr George Antonysamy, provided an opportunity for singing and dancing together. Activities were interrupted to make way for greetings and music, under the big gazebo that serves as a waiting area. One young patient played a tam tam while a group of women improvised a dance, leading everyone about in a long train.
The welcome greeting was delivered to the nuncio by Kpakilé Felemou, coordinator of the centre, and was following by a note of thanks from a woman, Diaka, who has been receiving treatment at DREAM since last December: “Here we are a family,” she said, “and if at home we could be saddened sometimes, here we still find warmth and joy.” It was Diaka who opened the dancing, drawing in other women too, and patients and workers soon found themselves celebrating.
The nuncio gave thanks for the warm reception he got and emphasized the fact that the DREAM centre and the Community of Sant’Egidio were an open house, where everyone would find welcome. He also gave assurance to all of the friendship and support of the nunciature.
The party ended with brioches and croissants for all and a photo as a reminder of the occasion. |
