Great celebration at the new DREAM Center and the Nutritional Center of the Community of Sant’Egidio in Beira, for the visit of a delegation of the Community from Rome. Beira is the second city of Mozambique and it is the capital of the Province of Sofala.
While the nutritional center is operational since last November and houses 150 children every day for lunch, the DREAM center and the laboratory have been open for over just a week. 150 patients have already been transferred from the Manga Chingussura center, located in the outskirts of the city and where the DREAM Program has been active for almost nine years.
Lately the demand for care from the population of the area has increased enormously in the center of Manga Chingussura, which is currently treating about 7.000 patients.
The new DREAM Center in Praia Nova, in the heart of the city, will receive the patients from the entire central area of Beira, reducing their journey and making it easier to access treatment, but mostly, it will provide opportunities to many other AIDS patients to receive treatment.
Excitement took place also in the new laboratory attached to the DREAM Center of Praia Nova, where they begin to process the samples for routine analysis and especially for the determination of the Viral Load, for which until now was necessary to send the samples to the laboratory in Maputo.
In a crowded meeting in occasion of this visit, the representatives of the Association EU DREAM have sought to express their gratitude to the Community of Sant’Egidio for this new center and have reaffirmed their commitment to support through friendship and prayer the work of the Community, to save and humanize the lives of so many Mozambicans.
Songs and good wishes, along with a letter and messages of welcome, greeted the delegation amongst the children of the feeding center. Then they all ran to wash their hands and rushed to the table.
