Human papillomavirus (HPV) infections are the leading cause of cervical cancer. In Malawi, this type of cancer significantly affects women, accounting for about 40% of all cancer cases.

In particular, in the remote communities of Chamvala, Dziwe, and Chimembe, access to healthcare and awareness pose significant challenges. The DREAM Program has taken steps to tackle these issues through an awareness campaign, equipping women with the knowledge and tools necessary for cervical cancer prevention.

It is crucial to understand that early diagnosis and preventive measures play a vital role in mitigating the impact of cervical cancer.

The recent campaign conducted in these areas, supported by the BMZ project, involved collaboration with several rural healthcare facilities. The main goal was to reduce incidence and mortality rates associated with cervical cancer through targeted awareness and screening activities.

The results highlight a significant achievement: a screening rate of 89.2%. This is even more remarkable considering the historical lack of regular services due to limited resources.
