At the DREAM Clinic in Bagui, a specialized space for the treatment of epilepsy patients has been established. This facility has already seen over 1,200 individuals successfully treated for epilepsy, with positive and satisfying outcomes. Building on this success, the Ministry of Health of the Central African Republic signed an agreement several months ago with the DREAM Program of the Community of Sant’Egidio to develop and manage a neurological center within the hospital. This center focuses primarily on treating epilepsy patients, further expanding care for those affected by this condition.

Last week, we had the honor of hosting Minister Somse at our center and launching a series of initiatives aimed at raising community awareness about the importance of epilepsy care. During the event, we heard moving testimonies from patients who had faced discrimination and isolation due to their condition. Thanks to the free and adequate care they have received, they now look to the future with hope.

We also showcased to the Minister our advanced diagnostic infrastructure, which is essential for delivering high-quality care. These activities are made possible through collaboration with Italian neurological experts (from the Carlo Besta Neurological Institute, the Pierfranco and Luisa Mariani Foundation – Pediatric Neurology, and the Italian Neurology Society) and the financial support of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.

International Epilepsy Day is a moment to reflect on the challenges faced by those living with this condition and to renew our commitment to providing quality care and support to those in need.
