In Mozambique, with support from AICS and collaboration with CUAMM and AIFO, the DREAM Program of the Community of Sant’Egidio has launched a new project titled “Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases.”

This new initiative, funded by the Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, AICS), is aimed at strengthening the public health system to combat Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). These conditions, which are increasingly prevalent across Africa and particularly in Mozambique, demand significant attention from organizations and development agencies. This project builds on a previous collaboration among the DREAM Program, Medici con l’Africa CUAMM, and AIFO (Associazione Italiana Amici di Raoul Follereau), further solidifying their partnership in addressing NCDs.

In April, a key delegation of diabetes and cardiology specialists, alongside the medical directors of the DREAM Program, began an intensive training program using on-the-job methodologies at selected centers within the program. The mission included packed schedules of patient consultations and training sessions. Several public centers were visited, including Naconjo and Manga Chiungussura in Beira, and Matola C, Matola II, Moamba, Sabie, and Matutuine in Maputo.

These centers showcased excellent organization, a testament to the prior collaboration, and highlighted how investments in NCD care—through equipment provision, staff training, and structured care processes—are yielding substantial results.

Once again, DREAM demonstrates its ability to anticipate and significantly contribute to Africa’s healthcare challenges. By building strong scientific foundations and fostering robust partnerships, it ensures that many patients today can benefit from these advancements.
