The delegation was warmly welcomed at the paillote by songs performed by the children of the School of Peace, who use the space in the afternoons. During the mornings, the same area serves as the reception space for the center’s patients. One of the patients addressed the visitors, saying, “I am a product of your support. It’s no small thing; it has a profound impact on people’s lives. If I am here today, it’s thanks to you, and everything I have learned, I learned here at DREAM.”
One of the coordinators of the four DREAM centers explained how the space is used daily for health education sessions and raising awareness to ensure optimal adherence to treatment. The delegation was then guided through the daily circuit followed by patients: from the reception to vital signs checks, sample collection, medical consultation, and finally, medication distribution.
The laboratory deserved special attention during the visit. Established in 2006 as the first facility capable of performing molecular biology tests essential for effective disease monitoring, it remains a reference laboratory today. It supports the country’s health system by processing samples from centers located far from the capital.
The medical team emphasized their work not only in treating AIDS and tuberculosis but also in preventing non-communicable diseases. They highlighted their efforts to combat cervical cancer through a screening program offered to all women at the various centers.
This visit also provided an opportunity to update the AICS Director on the progress of the DREAM Program in Guinea, particularly regarding activities under the “A.S.S.I.S.T. – Access to an Integrated Health System for TB/HIV Services in Guinea” project. This initiative, funded by AICS and implemented in partnership with the University of Rome Tor Vergata (TVG) and the local health center Saint Gabriel Dispensary and Maternity (DSG), aims to reduce HIV-related mortality and incidence. It focuses on ensuring universal access to HIV/TB prevention and treatment by increasing access to free, high-quality healthcare services in Conakry, Coyah, and Dubréka.
We are delighted to continue collaborating with AICS to improve the health and well-being of the Guinean population.
