G.R.A.S.S. (Growth and Resilience in Agriculture for Sustainable Societies)
Descrizione progetto
This project aims to develop the resilience of people with HIV in southern Malawi with the creation of community and school vegetable gardens, and education and training activities on nutrition, food safety and hygiene.
The project does not only concentrate on the right to health but also on questions concerning gender equality and climate change. Sixty percent of the beneficiaries are women and this is in order to encourage their economic and social emancipation, in a country where women are still heavily discriminated against. The vegetable gardens, which respect the local biodiversity and do not use chemical fertilisers or pesticides, are in line with a model of sustainable agriculture and make it possible for the local population to deal with periods of food insecurity caused by climate change.
Areas included: Dowa, Blantyre, Balaka, Dedzda, Mangochi and Machinga
