The Community of Sant’Egidio’s DREAM programme supports the Good Shepherd Mission Hospital in preventing and treating HIV and TB. The hospital is located in Siteki, the most important town in the region and it offers a wide range of services.
DREAM supports the department that treats HIV, it offers pregnant women assistance and it also supports the tuberculosis clinic. The application of DREAM protocols for the treatment of TB is an excellent form of collaboration. The hospital acts as a hub: it receives the most serious cases and in particular patients with MDR-TB (multi-drug resistant tuberculosis). The doctors in the centre regularly provide their support for some small clinics, with laptops for recording all the data in the DREAM software, so the service can be managed more quickly and efficiently.
