This project aims to improve the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) services and ensure the necessary care for the children who have contracted the virus. The Community of Sant’Egidio collaborates with the National Health System of Mozambique in order to support existing facilities, it offers training activities, provides equipment for the computerized management of medical records and for monitoring the patients. The project also carries out awareness campaigns for local communities and family counselling, in order to increase the effectiveness of the test and treat approach, which means testing people for HIV and AIDS, and if they are positive, immediately give them the opportunity to be put on the antiretroviral therapy.
