What headache services in sub-Saharan Africa? The DREAM program as possible model
Recent studies showed that in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where more than 1 billion people live, headaches are at least as prevalent as in western countries. However, there are no specialists or primary healthcare facilities from which to deliver headache services in many countries. The United Nations recommends combining non-communicable disease care at existing HIV centres.
Thanks to the continuous education programs for health personnel, the telemedicine system and the highpatient retention, DREAM is scaling up care for non-communicable diseases and offers a model to also deliver headache services in sub-Saharan Africa.
